Could you be the hero that swoops in and saves the day for our young Eagles? We believe you could be...

Abingdon Eagles have a fantastic packed season of games for our YBL and NL teams across many age groups.

In order to continue being able to offer central venue games for our young teams as well as our development players, we desperately need more game day support and we're delighted to be able to do this by nurturing and growing our referee crew.

But we need your help! Please.
Without you, these Eagles games wont go ahead.
Without you, Eagles won't continue to improve and won't continue to rise up.
With you, Eagles have a strong future.
With you, we have something special, something our players believe in and dream about.  GAME DAY!

Please don't be tempted to look sideways, skip this message or expect someone else to step in - challenge yourself to take a leap into the unknown and soar to new heights. You can become a hugely integral and appreciated part of the Eagles community.

This summer we have already successfully recruited:

  • 4 fabulous new Team Managers, who were completely new to the role
  • Trained 8 wonderful new Eagles Coaches, who have never coached before
  • Qualified 10 super dooper new Eagle Table Officials, who have played and love their sport
  • Which only leaves us to recruit, train and qualify 6 wonderful new referees from the remaining families left.

Training our own referees will allow our club to become self-sustainable, give us longevity for seasons to come and help give game opportunities to current players, right now. It will also strengthen our current Eagles community and spread the load across more people, so as not to burn out our marvellous few referees we already have access to and already rely so heavily on.

If you are interested and would like to register, please hit on this link

If you would like more information and inspiration, talk to your coach or Team Manager.

If you would like to meet our current referees, have a chat, get to know the role and the club on a game day, come along on a Saturday afternoon and say 'Hi'.

COURSE & RECOGNISED OFFICIAL QUALIFICATION

  • We are hosting a level 2 referee course in Abingdon on the morning of 23rd November.
  • No experience necessary.
  • You need to be a minimum of 16 years of age.
  • We are able to offer the course free of charge to the Eagles who are interested and keen to get involved and get our younger players' games happening. And we need a minimum of 6 to attend the course.
  • The course will be run by the tenacious, technical and terrific James Davies of YBL Your Basketball Leagues CIC. Who is a regular cheerful face at our home court on game days.
  • You will become a fully qualified level 2 referee and will gain a recognised qualification.

PUTTING IT INTO PRACTISE

  • Our newly qualified referees will be given access to a wealth of knowledge from our current experienced crew, as well as continued background and technical support from the YBL and their training team.
  • Our referees on game days are a fully paid role.
  • To help support our referees even further, they will receive a free of charge place at the club for one player (themselves or a child).
  • You will also be supported by our Referees Coordinator who will give you the game options and dates available in advance to plan your time.

RISING HIGHER

  • Should you prefer, we will be able to give you the wings to start flying alongside our current experienced referees at games for our youngest age groups with friendlies and internal games first, moving forward to eventually treading the boards for the older age groups at YBL and hopefully NL level.
  • Or if you are ready and willing you can take flight and move straight into reffing at our top tier of competitive games.
  • We can tailor it to entirely to support your own adventures, challenges and basketball journey.
